Knox’s Homemade Pumpkin and Probiotic Dog Treats

Super Healthy Pumpkin And Probiotic Dog Treats

🐾 Super Healthy Pumpkin And Probiotic Dog Treats
(Made with love for my rescue dog Knox)

I’ve started creating my own dog treats, simple, wholesome, and packed with ingredients that actually help rather than harm. These Pumpkin & Probiotic Treats are my go-to for Knox, our rescue boy.

When Knox first came to us from the pound, he was struggling. Gut issues, recurring ear infections, and itchy skin, all from being fed the wrong things before we got him. Watching him scratch and suffer broke my heart, so I made it my mission to rebuild his health from the inside out.

That’s where these treats come in. Pumpkin is gentle on the tummy, full of fibre, and great for digestion. Probiotics help balance the good bacteria in the gut, which can make a huge difference for sensitive dogs like Knox.

And the best part? He loves them. Knowing that each treat is not just tasty but healing makes me feel like I’m giving him a little extra care with every bite.

Recipe: Pumpkin & Probiotic Dog Treats

Ingredients

  • 1 cup cooked, mashed or roasted pumpkin with cold pressed olive oil, or organic coconut oil - (no added sugar or spices)
  • 1 ½ cups oat flour (or finely blended rolled oats)
  • 1 free range egg
  • 2 tbsp plain unsweetened yoghurt (with live probiotics)
  • 1 tsp flaxseed meal (optional, for extra fibre & coat health)
  • 1 tsp peanut butter (unsweetened, un-salted, xylitol-free)
  • I am adding organic parsley from my garden (Optional)

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 170°C (340°F).
  2. Mix pumpkin, egg, peanut butter, yoghurt, and flaxseed meal in a bowl.
  3. Gradually add oat flour until a dough forms.
  4. Roll out the dough and cut into shapes (bone cutters are fun!).
  5. Bake on a lined tray for 20–25 minutes, until firm and golden.
  6. Cool completely before serving.

Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week, or freeze for longer.

Why This Matters
Every dog deserves the right food to thrive. For Knox, these treats are more than snacks, they’re part of his healing journey. For me, making them by hand is a reminder of how far he’s come since we rescued him.

Because sometimes the best medicine really is made with love (and pumpkin). 🧡
